San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music

San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music (SFFCM) is a non-profit service organization that was founded in 1998 to nurture, support and promote the careers of professional chamber music ensembles and to build audiences for chamber music in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through its fiscal sponsorship program, its educational endeavors, its creation of performance opportunities and its granting program for chamber music projects, San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music has become an increasingly vital part of the small ensemble performing arts community of the Bay Area. In 2010, SFFCM was honored to be nationally recognized by Chamber Music America when it received the prestigious CMAcclaim Award for its extraordinary contributions in the field of chamber music.
The SFFCM Affiliate Program supports and assists emerging and existing professional chamber ensembles and presenters through fiscal sponsorship, career guidance, and a wide range of services and resources, including workshops on grant-writing, marketing, public relations, self-promotion, recording and networking. The SFFCM Musical Grant Program assists professional ensembles and individuals through a competitive selection process, by providing awards for chamber music projects, positively impacting the careers of the recipients and generating countless opportunities for local audiences to enjoy the performances made possible by the program. Chamber Music Day . Live + Free is an annual day-long event that showcases live performances by some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s finest professional ensembles. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to experience—some for the first time—the excitement of new works and classic chamber music repertoire—absolutely free of charge.
Chamber Music Encounters is SFFCM’s chamber music education program that focuses on school-aged musicians in the Bay Area. Programs include school chamber music coaching, intensive weekend workshops for young musicians and professional master classes for highly accomplished pre-college young musicians.
SFFCM is proud to collaborate with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco as well as Classical Revolution to present La Belle Vie at the Legion of Honor - a Sunday morning chamber music series on the first and third Sunday of each month from February to June, 2011, in the Rodin Gallery at the Legion of Honor. The series features ten concerts, where ensembles are asked to present repertoire that makes an artistic connection to the current and permanent exhibits at the Legion. On the third Sunday of each month, resident ensemble Revolution Quartet will perform. On the first Sunday of each month, SFFCM has engaged five ensembles who are either SFFCM Affiliates or awardees of SFFCM’s Musical Grant Program.
